Enrichment Programs
- “Spanish the Montessori Way”: Vocabulary-based Spanish is taught through the 3-period lesson. The curriculum uses manipulative materials and the vocabulary includes colors, numbers, items of clothing, food names, greetings, counting and experiences with the Mexican/Spanish culture. This program was designed to be a foundation for later work in Spanish.
- "Character Education": A self-awareness program that develops kindness, anger management and emotional problem solving through puppets, modeling and acting out. This character education program includes “10 great ways to treat others.”
- “Yoga”: An introduction to yoga that helps improve concentration and creativity.
- “Art”: Our art program is designed to allow the children freedom of expression while building a foundation for art history and art appreciation.
- “Music”: Rhythm, listening skills and movement will create a love of music through exploration.
- “Gardening”:Gardens and container plants will demonstrate the life cycle and role of plants in our environment. They will draw all forms of wildlife into our yard; the result will be observation of the close tie between nature and humans.
- “Community Service”:School in the Hills students and parents will participate in collecting for Austin-based services. The children will play a role in organizing, collecting, sorting and preparing items for delivery. Learning to give back is an important lesson for all humanity.
Dr. Montessori wrote of the development of the human potential, School in the Hills will provide an environment that contains everything a student needs for his/her total development.
* Children attending fewer than 5 days per week or on the academic schedule, may not participate in all enrichment programs due to the limited time on campus.
