When the school environment is filled with love, acceptance, and successful experiences, a child will thrive. He will regard school as a safe place where curiosity and exploration are always allowed. This love for learning and education will continue on in the child’s future academic endeavors. School in the Hills offers unique and diverse Montessori programs. We provide education for toddlers, preschool and Kindergarten age children. We also offer before and after school care for neighborhood elementary students.
Toddler Community: Children 18 months to 3 years old
“I Do It”…A toddler’s favorite phrase. No matter how difficult the task, a toddler wants to do it himself. Our Toddler environments are designed to provide the tools for children to do things on their own. We meticulously select and create materials that support our students’ need for independence as well as their physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development. This kind of environment frees the child to grow and develop according to his own potential and at his own pace.
In our Toddler community, we value the child’s energy, abilities, and curiosity. Our Montessori trained teachers focus on providing meaningful activities that promote exploration, movement, concentration, fine & gross motor development, language, and order. These activities and experiences allow the child to build a strong foundation for their future academic endeavors.
The students in our Toddler environments learn and grow in a safe, well-equipped, and loving atmosphere. You will be amazed at the incredible things our toddlers are capable of.
Primary Community: Children 3 years through Kindergarten
“I see the world”…your child is now understanding he is part of an amazing world and is learning what his role in it is. Our Primary program is designed to support him during this journey. Our classrooms are rich in choices, experiences, and opportunities for self-discovery.
In our environments children are free to learn and absorb effortlessly. Our Primary program focuses on providing opportunities for our students to develop concentration, coordination, order, and independence. The materials guide them to discover how the world around them works in a non-competitive and self-paced way. All of the activities are guided by a respect for the teacher, the work, and each other.
Our Montessori trained teachers present lessons and materials that are at a challenging level according to each student’s individual needs. The Montessori classroom supports the children’s natural learning process by giving them precise language with which they can describe the world around them. Practical Life lessons promote independence. Beautiful sensorial materials allow the children to experiment with and refine their senses. Hands-on language materials lead children naturally through the process of learning to read. Concrete math materials guide children to understand and master abstract concepts.
We are confident that upon completion of our three-year Primary program, our students acquired notable academic skills. They also develop self-confidence, strength of character, and a love for learning that will travel with them for a lifetime
