At School in the Hills, our Toddler Community program is thoughtfully designed to accompany this special time with respect, intention, and deep care for each child’s development.

Our program offers a carefully prepared environment where every element responds to the natural needs of the young child: order, movement, exploration, emotional security, and independence. The spaces are adapted to their size, rhythm, and curiosity, allowing children to become active protagonists of their own learning from the very beginning.
We firmly believe that children learn by doing. For this reason, each day they engage in real-life activities that promote autonomy: pouring water, preparing simple food, cleaning surfaces, caring for plants, organizing materials, dressing themselves, and practicing self-care. These experiences nurture authentic independence, build confidence, and foster pride in meaningful work.

These activities support their ability to classify, compare, observe details, and organize information, indirectly preparing the foundations for logical and mathematical thinking.
is one of our highest priorities. We recognize that during this stage children are in a sensitive period for language, absorbing vocabulary, sounds, and structures effortlessly. Within the environment, clear, respectful, and precise language is consistently modeled. Communication is fostered through meaningful conversations, songs, stories, and activities that strengthen both listening and verbal expression.
arises naturally as children share an environment built upon mutual respect. They learn to take turns, care for materials, and navigate small social situations guided by attentive adults who model grace, courtesy, and empathy. These early experiences lay the foundation for social and emotional growth: recognizing emotions, forming positive relationships, and learning to live in community.
Our program also supports physical development through activities that strengthen both gross and fine motor coordination. Movement is fully integrated into daily life through hands-on work, outdoor play, sensory experiences, and activities that allow children to explore their bodies and master new skills.
Children develop concentration, perseverance, self-control, responsibility, and initiative. Every experience is intentionally designed to strengthen foundational life skills—learning to try, make mistakes, repeat, and succeed—always at their own pace and in alignment with their individual developmental needs.
These early capabilities form the core of a child’s readiness for the Primary classroom, where concentration, collaboration, expressive communication, and self-direction become increasingly important. Through daily practice and thoughtful guidance, children develop the tools they need to enter Primary not just prepared, but empowered.
a love of learning, functional independence, respect for themselves and others, and work habits that support continued growth. With this progressive preparation, children transition into Primary with confidence and ease. They do not enter as beginners to structured learning, but as capable, autonomous individuals excited to continue discovering the world.
